I absolutely love London and its diversity. You can never get bored, just need to be aware to avoid tourist traps if possible. I live by the sea on the south coast of England and it only takes a couple of hours to get there. London is so much more than the city centre

One of the funniest shows ever. An authentic parody of northern working mens clubs. Peter Kay just can't seem to go wrong with anything he's involved in.

There was a 1970s TV show called "The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club". Worth watching an episode or two to get a handle on working mens club culture. Back in the 60s and 70s it was common for large employers in the north to have social clubs for their employees. So towns with mines would have a miner's welfare club. Or a few employers would sponsor a trades club. They were social clubs that offered a range of entertainment and cheap alcohol. Phoenix Nights is set long after the best days of the northern England working mens club, but that adds to the charm of the show.

Wow I completely forgot Limmy was in IT Crowd! He's the other window cleaner, besides Roy ;). He's funny af and has actually put his own show out there, called Limmy's Show. You should 100% react to it! He does characters and skits. He does a lot of Twitch streams these days.

American teams are profitable because of scarcity, the NFL has 32 teams, in Europe there are 1000 top flight teams (meaning teams that play in the highest division in their domestic league, with the Premier League being the 'top flight' league in England). To make it comparable you would have to have a division in each state with 20 teams in each, where whoever is in 1st at the end of the season is the winner of their league, then the following year all of those winners from the 50 states play each other in a knockout competition to win a national cup competition (similar to a playoff) that would be an American equivalent to the Champions League.

Stick with it. It's brilliant.

When you have finished this you should watch 'Max and Paddys Road To Nowhere'. It was a spin off from this one and is just as funny, if not funnier. As are the out-takes of Phoenix Nights, especially the "Tommy Dick Fingers" one 🤣 The actual club used is called St Gregorys in Farnworth which I went to a few times back in the early 90s and one of my friends had his wedding reception there.

I love this show, but it doesn't translate well to anyone who wasn't born before the 90's, and in the North of England. Working mens clubs are unique. For anyone who was lucky enough to be born under those circumstances, this stuff is hilarious!

Terrible northern humour. So much dead air in this series and basic sillyness.

I usually cringe when Americans (or most foreigners, for that matter) try and watch comedy shows that are very "ethnically" English working class, like Phoenix Nights and Only Fools and Horses...it's the kind of comedy that is very local, and doesn't export well.

Wasn't sure how this would go down. Peter Kay's humour is very esoteric. I live about 6 miles from Bolton so not much is lost on me here. Good luck trying to understand our North-West accents.

admittedly Boomer, it is a very very British one this. There is some very niche British references in the jokes so you’d do well to get most of them. But Phoenix Nights gets better as it goes on. Honestly I always thought the 2nd series was the better one as the characters were more established by then. I think the first few episodes set the scene and the characters and then it just starts to come together.

Count Arthur Strong is a must watch for you. Really underrated

This was funny but I thought "Car Share" was even funnier.

Mosquitos are at least 100 times more annoying than flies! The worst are the ones that start buzzing as soon as you turn off the light to go to sleep. And then it starts. No way you're going to fall aslee with that buzzing, so you turn on the light to deal with the matter and, mmediately... the buzzing stops! You know it's ging to start again soon, so you look for the culprit every effing where, but it is nowhere to be found. So you go back to bed and turn off the light again and immedatelly... Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! You try covering yourself up over the head, and ignore the sound, but it just gets worst, t's as f you just made the bloody thng angier. So you turn on the light again and... complete silence! No mosquito in sight. Light off again, bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Light on, silence! Off, bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Off, silence! Off... you get the picture. Eventually you do fall asleep, out of sheer deprivation. And then in the morning, although you slept, in the heat, all covered up, you'll still find at least one bite mark on you, that you didn't even feel when it happened. I mean, FFS, if you're going to bite me without me even noticing it, you could at least let me sleep in peace, no?! Nope, the mosquito says. I hate the freaking things.

The song is about shoes, but it's funny because it sounds massively racist. That's the joke

Tim Healy (the leader of the folk group) started singing about ordering white communion shoes but, when they arrived, they were black - hence 'put the lid back on and send the b*ggers back'. The reporter, however, then notices more dubious words (not about black people but about another minority ethnic/religious group and sung 'off camera', with only the last word actually audible) and chaos ensues! (Even when broadcast several years ago, a racist song would have been totally unacceptable for UK TV.)

Every Graham Linehan show has enough material for 10-12 episodes then drags on for a series too long.
